In that case, how about using a two pin receptacle?

Of course, we all know "our kids" would never do something so stupid,
but I'm not so sure about the neighbors'!
Anyway, in a search to find an answer to this nagging question, I did
a little Googling and found the perfect solution (and I don't think
it's a joke):

If that product proves hard to find, try this -- available at your
local Grainger's:

Now, on to a bigger debate: on an XLR connector, should pin 2 be
wired "hot", or pin 3? I say 2, but I know some stubborn guys out
there that will go to their grave insisting it's 3....
