Most digital radio stations I know of simply put the output of the analog
processor into the digital encoder input.
So, they have digital radio with 1/2 a db of dynamic range.

Why bother?

Paul:

I think most processing is emotionally driven. I doubt most people listening
to the radio care much, one way or the other, how it is processed. I think
many people know crap when they hear it, but cannot describe what they are
hearing or why they think it sounds bad in the way you and I can.

Given that both FM and IBOC are capable of very good audio performance, the
determining factor will be how the PDs with hearing at 5 kHz and below, end up

adjusting the processing. I doubt much thought will be given to its sonic
abilities but more thought will be given to a perceived competitive sound.
