My favorite EAS typo which proves that no one reads or follows the FCC
rules. If you actually followed the FCC rules exactly as written, every
EAS encoder/decoder on the market is non-compliant with Part 11. Of
course, that's ridiculous, but the FCC won't fix its typos.
In section 11.31(c), just after stating "The EAS protocol, including any
codes, must not be amended, extended or abridged without FCC
authorization."
Look for the lowercase letter "p" in the middle of the EAS protocol
definition "TTTTpJJJ".
The EAS protocol won't work unless you amend, extend and abridge the rules
full of typos. And in practice, every EAS participant and EAS
manufacturer has been amending, extending and abridging for decades to
make EAS work.
