In today's WEA 2.0 environment and its now expanded 360-character limit, links to maps can be embedded within WEA messages. When NWS forecasters lay out their tornado path (or flash flood or severe tstm) on the WarnGen warning generation mapping, those lat/long corners can also be linked to a map that then goes into WEA. Local emergency managers can do the same - imagine a map with a hazmat scenario!

The current NWS warning dissemination from the forecast office to IPAWS does not have the feature - yet. And before anyone says it - I agree - it should. It boils down to having the WarnGen software include a 'map' within it for WEA distribution.

So those folks all looking at their phones in the big box store wondering if they are in harm's way, will see a map that shows them in the clear.

How to make this happen? I strongly suggest input from broadcasters and mobile phone providers.

And years ago, I had a similar idea for cars and trucks. With the development of dashboard menu screens, if a warning arrives via NWR (monitored in the background), it interrupts whatever is on the screen/audio and displays the 'map' with the NWR audio so motorists would avoid the area threatened. GM engineers were introduced to the concept - still await the desired results.
