[EAS] Amateur & Personal Radio Users Reminded Not to Use Radios in Crimes

Good stuff Bill. Thanks for posting.

As a follow up to my post yesterday... There was another You-Tube Ham radio site discussion of this matter. And unlike the first guy I mentioned who acted as if he was clueless about why the FCC would post such an advisory and who acted as if he was personally insulted by its content, this other guy went straight to the reason the commish did what they did, when they did it.

As a part of his stream he displayed a crowd photo of some of the participants, in the midst of their activity, that clearly showed at least three of them with handheld radios. He discussed that it appeared that these radios were off-brand and cheap, (Brand B) and possibly ham band capable. He also speculated that these people may not have been licensed to use those radios on the frequencies where they were being used. Apparently some D.C. area Ham repeaters had to be shut down as they were passing traffic related to, and in aid of the events of Jan. 6.

Now I don't normally put a lot of stock in what I see on You-Tube. So take what I say/what they say with a grain of salt or two. My point in this comparison is simply to question how anyone, claiming to be a Ham radio elmer, could be so puzzled, and insulted by the FCC's response to what happened in D.C. two weeks ago.

This is one of those times that the commish came forward with a clear message directly targeted to an audience that unfortunately, and for various reasons will be deaf to that message. But kudos to the FCC for laying it out anyway. In a perfect world, I'd like to think they would go after some of these people for FCC and Communications Act violations, even if other agencies can't get them for anything else.

We have a saying around here that rings true for this situation.
"Don't break the law while you're breaking the law."
