Thanks for posting this, Suzanne-
I first met Dennis while I was active as an advisor on broadcast issues for the Los Angeles Office of Emergency Management. Dennis was a major contributor to over 60 years of warning research that formed a large part for the background for the reports for FEMA, FCC and NWS for the Partnership for Public Warning, Inc.(PPW) in 2001-2002 that I contributed to as a PPW Trustee.
Dennis appeared at several symposia and retreats on warning issues for LA County that I was privileged to attend.
The body of research that Dennis contributed to still resides at the Colorado State Natural Hazards Center in an online archive and should be require reading for anyone involved with public alert and warning issues.
Dennis was a bit feisty and opinionated, but those of us who knew and listened to him quickly realized his opinions and passion for research-based decisions was right on target.
May he not only rest in peace, but be remembered, I hope, in some significant national way for the research on public alert and warning issues, and more.
