Curious. Thanks, Larry.

From a purely regulatory standpoint if a station transmits tones
differing from the ones precisely specified in 11.31 (a) (9) (i) my
guess is that the FCC can't cite that station for violating the EAS rules.

If the ES decoder at another station monitoring the wrong tones logs
that as an EAS event that is the fault of the monitoring equipment and a
different subject.

Clearly, though, there is no excuse for using the 11.31 (a) (9) (i)
two-tone attention signal in any entertainment.

 FYI,

KQED-FM is monitored by lots of broadcast and cable companies because we are the San Francisco Bay Area LP2. We recently have been receiving comments from a few TV stations that say one of our programs triggers their DASDEC equipment. (See log below) Their DASDEC logs the receipt of an incomplete EAS event. The KQED-FM program in question has a few seconds of electronic music that includes sweep tones at the time of the errors on the logs. My point being that the receive equipment may trigger on tones outside of the FCC spec required for tone transmission.
