Which is why I still keep a couple of the old analog dial phones (and an old TELCO "buttset") in the basement, and I know how to connect/use them. Following the earthquake in Olympia, WA in 2001, we were able to talk to our son once via (his) cellphone. It was a week or so later before he could make another call that would go through. All channels were either busy or taken by emergency services. Cellphones are "neat", but very fragile.
