I write from the very heart of the free range, gluten free, fair trade, organically grown PRofCA overlooking the San Andreas Fault with my studios on the North American plate and my transmitter on the Pacific plate (I have to re-align the STL antenna every 1k years or so). We are subject to floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and, at the moment, a combination red flag and high wind warning that the NWS describes as a historic event. Words like that tend to concentrate the mind.
Yet my dearly beloved neighbors are shocked - shocked I tell you - when their home phones quit working (VoIP of course, needing both power and Internet), their Internet fails and their cell phones don't work.
Of course curmudgeons like me and my good buddy Bill Ruck retain our copper land lines. But I look at the level of AT&T maintenance of those lines (cables literally drooping into the highway) and wonder how reliable those really are.
It's all going to Hell I tell ya'!
