Several cabletv, telcotv and at least one broadcast conglomerate have
centralized engineering models. They manage and monitor systems
nationwide. The field service organizations are usually break&fix.

It requires different architecture and processes. Different EAS
vendors work better or worse in such an environment. There is a reason
why different manufacturers are popular in different industries.

I still remember the first time working on IPTV, and an EAS vendor told me
we had to tear off a paper tape on the front of the box and staple it in a
book. WTF? The National Operation Center was a 1,000 miles away, and
no equipment in a central office was going to print on paper rolls outside
of the toilets :-)

Automation is the key to scaling operations.
