I said this in my revitalization comments:
AM needs to see it's primary occupied bandwidth compressed to 5Khz (to
eliminate overlap) and converted to all digital within that passband
eliminating the adjacent channel carriers---Even if results in 7.5Khz
audio. Eliminate the overlap and 1st adjacent could go to over 5mV without
much problem. At which point, even marginal AM DA's would see significant
benefits if they can go omni and widen their bandwidth for best technical
practices.
Even co-channel protections could go up by 6dB.
Once that is done, placing EAS on a data subcarrier on ***both*** bands
would make sense.
Now, I appreciate this is a bit of long stretch to see the above occur.
But they're asking for ideas and this is a viable one...before anything is
seriously done with EAS on HD.
