Most of the entities your refer nationwide have those radios and monitor
the NWS NWR for weather emergencies. And have done so for years.
Especially in tornado alley. My first radio goes back to the late 80's
when my first employer had a NWR on their tower.
But not all hazards....which is a FEMA connection that is still missing
links into AWIPS for distribution to the various WFO's and local NWR TX's.
I quite frankly would welcome such a distribution pathway and a greater
probability critical, but not compulsory, messages disseminated to the
pool of both monitoring stations and the general public who has receivers.
