The commonly used story is that someone pushed the wrong button tends to
make the average joe think that there is a single-big launch button for
public warnings.
We all know that Hawaii, and everyone else, uses a purchased tool to be the
front-end on public warnings (Ever Bridge, Code-Red, Alert-Sense etc)
Do we know -
1- What brand and version of software they were using?
2 - What type of training is offered by the Vendor?
3- What amount of training Hawaii provides their operators?
Etc.
I am reminded of the recent Train-Wreck that took place not far from where I
live (I frequently go under that RR overpass).
In this case....The Train was traveling at 79 mph in a 30 mph Curve -
1- Warning signs were ignored (it passed a 30 mph sign)
2- Training was inadequate (Many have claimed this)
3- Lack of Automatic controls (PTC was not operating)
4- The train jumped the tracks and killed several (Thankfully no one died
in the Hawaii happening)
5- The Media was off over this one (and still are)
6 - Multiple Law Suits have been filed (I wonder)
Mistakes happen all the time - But when the mistake is with a government
entity - Look Out!
There is nothing more attractive than smoke rising from a government mistake
- Time to
Bring a can of gas and see what the 'real' story is.
