Dave,

The Sage ENDEC strips out the first detected occurrence of the 
attention signal, but does not require the tone to be there (or to 
last for eight seconds).

We do this by turning on the recorder at the end of the second valid 
header, and restarting it at the end of the third header (if 
present), and restarting it again at the end of the attention signal (if any).
