[EAS] [BC] What's the point of LP-1s anymore?

Personally I like keeping operational our legacy/analog EAS equipment
connected to Local Relay Networks - What they lack in 'Bling' they gain in
simplicity and reliability.
The problem with all the smart phones and internet connected gizmo's is that
way too many think they are invincible and will be there for them forever.
All it takes is a long term power outage or deep back-hoe fade to bring them
back to clear thinking. I recall speaking at an Emergency Management
conference this past year where I asked the question -
Why is it you are ready to call in the Ham Operators when your
communications systems no longer function - and while you are considering
that question - Answer this one -
How many old/analog/legacy systems have you thrown away that would have
enable you to do what the Hams do - In house?

Local officials don't need broadcast remote capability to originate EAS
broadcasts anymore. Original audio is an option through IPAWS, but your
locals don't even need to do that. It's literally just filling in a
computer form. (New tagline: "IPAWS. It's easier than eBay!") And with a
little planning that can be done locally, too, not only through FEMA.
Anyway, winter is coming, and I predict that shortly we'll be hearing from
folks about how the NWS is doing quite enough!
