I had purchased a yellow magnetic "twirly" light for the KFOG station 
vehicle.  At least in CA a commercial vehicle can display this light 
while stopped.  My boss at the time assured me that if there was any 
problems using this to get to the transmitter he'd cover the fines.

So October 1989 I was trying to get from the studio to Mt. Sutro 
through a complete gridlock.  I had put the twirly light on the 
roof.  At most intersections the SFPD stopped traffic for me and waved me on.

I'm not recommending this but I still have that light with me.
