Posting to both lists...
Three things...
1) I can think of no better example of why it is a terrible idea to have
open IP as the primary STL lest the IP path (and/or any back-ups) avoids
CO's.
2) I can think of no better example of why it is always preferred to own
at least one STL path(s) to the TX.
3) It will be interesting to see the cause of outage for each site. Static
water (accumulating) flood, wind driven inundation flood, wind caused
damage to building/tower/antennas, loss of power/generator failure,
lightning damage, all of the above(!!), et al?
Some things you can design and/or plan around. Others...well...Ma Nature
has her way of circumventing the best laid plans. Especially where the
building/tower/facility is along the coast which sees 130+ MPH winds
and/or 12 ft. storm surges. While I think you can build something to
withstand forces equal to an EF2 tornado, at what cost?
It will also be interesting to see what new things can be learned from
this rather unusual storm across all communications modes.
