[EAS] WEA used in NYC bombings

As a broadcaster, if those event codes don't immediately come to mind for me and I'll be honest, they didn't, how are they going to be of any use to the public?

We have full power stations around here with enough power and the right formats to be able to reach the largest audiences. But some of them don't even bother with flash flood warnings or TOR's around here even though our local EM has requested stations to add them to their systems.

What is being done in most places at the city or county EM levels to even make stations aware that these event codes are useful, let alone actually ask stations to have them ready to go? Other than the State Patrols and a handful of EMs for instance, where are these other enforcement agencies in asking broadcasters to have LEWs or LAEs at the ready?

Warning should not be a thing driven by the broadcast or cell industries. Yes we can help educate the civil authorities about our capabilities, and I think we have done that pretty well. But other than maybe being a second thought after an event happens, for the most part we are just that, a second thought and a fleeting one at that.

It is said, wisely, that "All emergencies are local." I add to that, "All emergencies are immediate."

Suppose the some law enforcement agency calls a local station and says, "We had this bad thing happen, can you do that thing you do with the noise and the tones and tell people about it and such?"
It kind of feels like that's what we have going on in most places.
