Yet several cable operators have undertaken rather expensive upgrades
already to accommodate an "immediate" NPT stream (rather than an NPT store
forward file). It's a very big change, as for example the SCTE-18 standard
does not contemplate an "immediate" transmission from anything else than an
EAN.
So we have undertaken rather costly changes to our systems to enable output
of an NPT just like an EAN. And many of our cable customers have likewise
devoted considerable resources to being able to accommodate an EAN-like NPT
input.
It may not have been the FCC's intent, but it was surely the result.
