The bottom line is that we look at public warnings, disasters and
emergencies via the Lens of our experiences.

If we have never experienced some of all of the following - -

Major Earthquake (I mean 6.0 or higher)

Major Flood (Not just an overflowing storm drain)

Tsunami (Not just some high waves from a big storm)

Volcanic Eruption (Think Mt St Helens)

Wild Fires (Like we have in the West)

Landslides (Think Oso Washington)

Tornados (EF Any number)

Civil Emergencies (CEM, SPW, EVI, FFW's etc)

A couple more things to consider -

> EAS is just > ONE < public warning tool in the emergency managers tool
box...Thankfully today there are many and the list is growing.

> Broadcast station warnings are not what they used to be because of the
growing mindset that other things are more important than warning the
public.

> The foundation of IPAWS is to use - all available means- to warn the
public and that's want we must do

> SECC's and LECC's were set up by the FCC to do their work. Today
progressive SECC's and LECC's are dealing with all forms of public warning
systems - and this is as it should be.
