This is an issue that is bigger than Fire Island each of us have dealt with problems along the way and it may be just one link in this EAS Chain that caused the problem and that still needs to be corrected. We have a duty to warn and we take that very seriously, the more we understand these systems and where the flaws are the better our system will be. In an area that has seasonal visitors and year round residences warning as many platforms as possible is the only way we might get everyone warned. Since I am not from that area I am speaking out of turn by saying if systems are that old there as a emergency manager I would use smoke signals if it warned just one person to take cover.
The lesson here is not the population being warned it is why are we still failing our citizens by not having our equipment in compliance?

> My question is still, why would they send an alert that virtually no one would get? They problem never would have occurred.
I'd imagine that they wanted to use every means available to warn people of imminent danger. I'd suspect they'd argue that "if only one life was saved..."
