I totally agree.  It is hard enough to do a good TTS translation with 
Ahmericun (remember Perfect Paul?) as opposed to British, Aussie, or 
Kiwi.  And what might work in the West Coast is different than New 
York or Great Lakes.  (My brother-in-law does a good job with 
"Yooper".)  One big radio owner consolidated their traffic reporting 
and the local San Francisco Bay Area reports are hysterical because 
the very far away traffic reporter is completely clue-impaired as to 
local street pronunciation.

Then try to do that with a completely foreign language.  As an 
example, Round Eyes think "Chinese" but there are at least two 
dominant and incompatible versions and several more less popular 
versions.  Then consider the various other Asian languages which if 
were called "Chinese" they would be insulted.

A station that is dominantly one single foreign language likely has 
the cultural skills to make an intelligent decision.  But a mass 
market station trying to cover all of the bases will likely stumble and fall.

Been there, done that, IMHO, etc.
