OK Group ... Taking Lowell's suggestion (Below)

QUESTION - What would be the down side of -

1- Eliminating some of the - over used- NWS Event Codes
2 -Programming the SPS Event Code as an automatic relay
3- Have your LECC or SECC work with the NWS to develop an understanding for
the use of SPS - covering such criteria as

>> Frequency of use
>> Length of Message
>> etc

A. I would be used Broadcasters (Or other wide geographic coverage
systems)
B. Information would be for a wide geographic area (Typically an EAS
Operational Area)
C. Would be distributed via NWR

Seems to me there are some distinct advantages -

1- Would not create an undue burden for NWS
2- Would enable the 're-connection'; of Broadcast stations to NWR by those
that disconnected due to message flooding
3- Would provide an enhance 'overview' for those that monitor NWR

Thoughts ??

I like where this discussion is going. Maybe NWS should consider using the
SPS event code (Special Weather Statement) for short-fused weather warnings
that are appropriate wider area dissemination via broadcast by radio, TV,
and cable. SPS is a code that doesn't seem to have any real use otherwise.
That would allow broadcasters to filter other weather codes that have a
tendency to be too geographically narrow.
