[EAS] Linux on SAGE EnDec Boxes?

Rob,

What is the mission purpose? In the USA, all EAS boxes must be FCC type
accepted units. That generally means our options to use a heavily modified
box are greatly limited without extensive testing by the FCC's lab.
Stations in the USA just went through a generational replacement a few
years ago where all but a handful of stations replaced their boxes with
new hardware. Which on it's own wasn't a bad thing considering the
increasing problems experienced by aging hardware.

While this might be of interest to those stations which still operate
their V1 boxes with overlay CAP encoders, that number is relatively small.
Never the less, the new OS would need to meet FCC testing thresholds for
use under the present rules. And one would still have a 15+ year old box
in the program chain with limited I/O options and no means to directly
connect a RJ45/CAT5 cable for CAP without an adapter. What is an
engineer's time worth these days?

For those who don't have such stringent requirements, such as amatuers and
those not in the USA, it would be an interesting experiment.
