Greetings:
NAB has offered the Broadcast Warning Working Group (BWWG) the use of the same room where they will hold their EAS session on Tuesday of NAB week, April 14. The EAS session with Damon Penn and Admiral Simpson is scheduled to end at 4:45 PM and we can have the room until 6 PM.
So, there are two questions that need answering:
1. If you are NOT registered for the NAB sessions, would you like me to compile an EAS Session RSVP list that NAB can have to allow you to attend?
2. Of those of you attending NAB, would you be interested in the BWWG session after where we can discuss what went on in the NAB session, and other open EAS concerns?
Some of those concerns are:
1. Will new FCC Closed Captioning rules going into effect result in more EAS Participants deciding to "Log Only" and not to air local and state EAS events?
2. Should we pursue a strategy of formally linking those SECC's not already closely tied in to their state's emergency management organization?
3. Related to (2), should we pursue a strategy to have EAS operations and training explained in NIMS, the National Incident Management System as a core response resource, and how this resource can be better utilized to get protective actions to those at risk as soon as the "response" phase of an emergency begins?
4. How do we get the emergency management community at large to view EAS and all the other means available to warn the public coordinated so they can work together to save more lives and property?
Please respond to this thread. I will capture all responses to see who is interested.
Thanks,
Richard Rudman
