Except for the politics, I got paid nicely for doing all of the above when
called upon as a contractor. They can pay me...or someone else. If I'm
already there and the changing a bulbs takes all of 15 minutes (including
pulling out and returning the step ladder to the store room), then that's
15 more minutes billed time for me.
The point is, someone is going to do that work. Whether that's a $20/hr.
building maintenance worker, $75/hr. electrican, or me at something short
of $100/hr. is for the client to decide.
And considering that plumbers charge $100/hr. these days, again, what's
the difference to plunge a toilet? Well for one, to avert a costly/messy
flood into the control room/studios (you do have bathrooms close to the
studios now...right?) or floors below. I've been involved with the latter
before on the receiving end....not pretty...
Now...there are things I won't do. Such as tasks which I don't own the
correct tools to do the job properly and safely, and to which a municipal
license is required. I don't own a power rodder for example, for clearing
a long drain. Nor do I own a Hijacker for changing high lights.
And if I'm pressed for time or needing to get to an emergency, then those
things may just need to wait or be done by someone else. Feast or famine.
