Let's keep this in perspective...all of this is for a product that has never
been used as intended
>> Thank goodness! Not a lot of us would be here if "the product" was used
as intended!

has had one test and one hack.
>> Bobby Bones was not a hack. It it should be used as an invaluable data
point for shoring up shortcoming in the system. Long overdue test, and long
overdue glitch. Both opportunities to examine remedies. I'm reading the
threads with Mike McCarthy's idea with great interest (though I think
message authentication and validation really needs to occur at every step of
the relay, not just the PEPs.).

if modern broadcasters/cable operators really should have a role in a
"national" warning system?
>> IMHO, absolutely. Particularly if the system ever needs to be used "as
intended". And particularly AM/FM/WX in a post- and trans- event scenario.

And is the idea of a "national" warning out of date?
>>> On a day where I open news websites and read about Russian long range
aircraft going into the Gulf of Mexico, Chinese and Russian aggressive
posturing, non-state actors and WMDs, and the occasional possibility
space-based event (and that's just today's headlines) ... ?
