[EAS] NWS/CG Interference in NY area

The maritime VHF channel 16 (distress and calling frequency) is 156.800 MHz.
As a former Coast Guard Officer and Search and Rescue Controller, I
completely understand the USCG's stomach acid with any interference on this
frequency -- and NWS frustration with the problem.

If I've surfed the right URL, the offending NWS frequency is 162.550 Mhz.
It would be nice if the article had been more specific about frequencies and
told us whether USCG District 1 and the regional NWS technical folks are
talking directly with each other about the issue.

The apparent difference frequency of 5.750 MHz doesn't offer any clues -- at
least to me. Nor does the apparent sum frequency of 319.350 MHz. The
problem might be antenna system rust, NWS transmitter over-modulation,
proximity of the USCG receiving antenna to NWS transmitting antenna,
transmitter or receiver configuration, or something else I'm not smart
enough to know about.

But this is radio! It ain't rocket surgery or brain science. And this has
been going on since LAST JULY? I can't help but think that some good-faith
technical liaison work between the USCG and the NWS could solve this problem
in a week or two. I see no excuse here for limitations on two frequencies
used for emergency purposes.
