As those of you who know us might suspect, Clay and I and many people we work with who believe that public warning improvement is a necessary goal are on the same page on this.
EAS is a resource that has the potential to save lives and property -- especially when other means for the EM community to communicate with the public are impaired or off line.
Because social media of all types is now being used by the EM community, there may be a growing sentiment that EAS is no longer needed or relevant.
Nothing could be further from the truth. As we depend more and more on IP technology, we must keep in mind how vulnerable IP is to simple problems like a wall wart falling out of an outlet, or a major emergency that will deprive a region of utility electric power and all the IP technology that depends on it for weeks.
And, preparedness for major emergencies, including provisions for "last ditch" emergency public information, has to be done on terms that are best described by "when", not 'if".
