Jake-
To the best of my knowledge (I've been wrong quite a bit over the last 70
years) There is no connection between the Feds EAN distribution system (aka
PEP's) and NWR. I agree that this would be a great idea, however, if you
think about the infrastructure requirements it's pretty easy to see that
this would be a larger undertaking as there are a lot of WFO's out there.
The other thing is that EBS and EAS have all been broadcasting systems that
they have continued to build upon.
Probably one of the best moves the Feds have made recently is the addition
of the Premiere Network to augment the PEP's. There are a large number of
affiliates that can be turned into PEP's.
What remains is the connection between these PEP's to be distributed to
something that will wake you up in the middle of the night ...Something that
Radio's and TV's are not designed to do.
Here in Washington State, specifically in locations served by the Seattle
WFO is to completely interconnect our EAS systems with NWR. Now your NWR
Receiver will receive the EAN's (Via our local PEP and participating NPR
Station) ...HOWEVER....The under can still opt out by electing to have the
alerting function of their NWR Receiver turned off.
