I don't have much experience with the weather radios as the nearest NWR
transmitter is too far away for effective reception here. But I would
think one question would be whether the radio you were using was just a
traditional weather radio or if it was an "all hazards" radio that new
how to decode the data bursts. I would think in the latter case, it
shouldn't matter whether the 1050 Hz tone was present.
Still, I wasn't aware a special version of SAGE firmware would allow for
the 1050 Hz generation. I'll have to look into that issue, as I'm not
sure whether the SAGEs used by NOAA in my state have that firmware. I
suspect they have the "standard" firmware. And I don't know what
policies NOAA may have regarding when the 1050 Hz tone should be sent.
