That's a good idea as well. Insulation just slows down heat loss. If the
275 gallon tank can stay warm enough (under worst-case temperatures)
till the power comes back or the tank gets refilled, the insulation will
have done it's job.

Someone else mentioned piping the generator's return fuel line to the
main tank instead of a day tank. This would continually add a small
amount of heat to the reservoir, so maybe a simple fiberglass tank wrap
is enough.
