Been there, done that.
When San Francisco had a major gas main punctured most of downtown SF
had the power shut off. KCBS learned the hard way that the fuel
transfer pump from the below ground fuel tank was not on their
generator. When the fire marshal caught them transporting diesel in
5 gallon water jugs up the elevator they were shut down! That's when
KCBS and KNX simulcasted. Very historic ID: "KNX Los Angeles and
KCBS San Francisco".
In 1989 TV Channel 20 at Mount Sutro learned the hard way that their
fuel transfer pump was not on the generator. This fed the TV20
transmitter and all of the FM transmitters. Silence ensued.
All of the above was changed ASAP.
Bottom line: When you think you have it all under control, pull the
building main and see what happens.
There was a story in the NY Times Friday (that I forgot to save)
about how broadcasters saved the day during Sandy.
