One has to learn from experience.
After the 1989 Earthquake when KNBR operated its studio from a
generator for three days I learned:
1. Water booster pumps need to run from the generator so that you
can flush toilets.
2. Toilet ventilation fans need to run from the generator. (See
#1!) Also toilet lights need to run from the generator although
flashlights did work.
3. Coffee pot needs to run from the generator.
This was not part of the design at the old 1700 Montgomery Street studios.
You can be assured that the above was included in the move to 55
Hawthorne Street. But I couldn't get the funding for the elevator,
so staff had to walk up to the 11th floor.
