[EAS] Secure access to EAS and other gear at remote sites

A few of us have to locate EAS gear at transmitter sites to make sure the analog monitor inputs comply with the local EAS plan.

For what it is worth I did not open up the ports for direct access to the remote control system or EAS device web interface that is located at this transmitter site. I installed a PC with virus protection on the site's firewall router, installed a PC to talk to the IP devices at the site, and then use an encrypted VNC application to talk to the site using the PC.

Upside is an extra level of security -- no direct access possible to the broadcast equipment boxes is allowed. One downside -- if the PC hangs up you can get locked out. At the " hard to get to" site remote i am talking about I have installed an AC power reboot device for the IT gear.

Wondering how others feel about this or others handle it.
