Harold:
I'm not sure why either unit stopped talking to the
internet. When first installed had them both sending me
e-mails on the running of an alert. Then they stopped.
Then the clocks stopped updating.
I don't have anyone available that is a real networking
expert. Best we can figure out, they see the same thing
that the satellite receivers do (and the receivers do talk
to the internet) but for whatever reason they can't
communicate with the outside world.
On topic:
Given the revenue enhancement proclivities of the
Commission, I suspect (unless we have another change in
rules) 3 years to the day after June 30 the field inspectors
will be looking for--and citing--those stations that don't
have full-fledged CAP boxes. Whether or not the converters
work or not. They'll come armed with a checklist: SAGE? OK
DASDEC OK Tri-Lithic OK Acme Converter? Citation.
Can remember a few years ago, after 9/11 (which proved the
uselessness of EAS in real national emergencies) the field
inspectors were out looking to see if we had EAS and were
getting tests. Didn't pay attention to anything else.
