[EAS] [sbe-eas] RWT

Thanks, Neil.
While I do recall seeing an e-mail about this a while back, I though that it said that it might stop, but that a definite decision had not been made. I guess it has been made now.
If the RWTs are stopped, all I have on my EAS unit is an indicator that it is successfully polling the IPAWS server. I'll even assume that the indicator is correct (although I don't know for certain that it is), and the polling is working. That doesn't necessarily mean that everything that needs to happen to correctly process an alert is working correctly.
A while back, one of my EAS monitor channels (on my pre-CAP box) stopped decoding correctly due to an EAS decoder malfunction. We check our audio sources several times per day to make sure that they are present, and it was present, but the EAS SOM tones were not being recognized. I knew pretty quickly because we did not receive the RWT from that station, and if there were no RWTs, I would have known, although not as quickly, when we missed the RMT.
There is no IPAWS RMT, so the RWT is the only way we know if it is actually working. Without the RWT, I may not know of a problem until I see a failure on a real alert. And missing a real alert is definitely not how I want to learn if I have a problem.

Mike,
A notification was sent out a month ago with this decision. At this time, the RWTs will stop until a permanent solution can be made available.
In the mean time, any and all persons on this list would would like the RWTs to continue, please send a SINGLE email to: IPAWS at dhs.gov with "RWT" in the subject line.
I will address the list again upon development of a permanent solution.

Neil,
Would you know what the reason for the decision to discontinue the IPAWS RWTs is? I think that they are valuable, because they allow stations to definitely confirm that their equipment is receiving the IPAWs feed and correctly decoding the messages, and I was hoping that they would be made permanent.
Who would be the best person to express a desire to have this decision reconsidered to?
Thanks,
Mike
