[EAS] RWT trigger detection...more info

Mike,

The Sage ENDEC uses a DSP chip and firmware to encode/decode
tones. We're looking into how much effort it would take to add DTMF
detection into the existing DSP code, and what impact it would have
on the FSK encode/decode and ATTN/1050hz encode/decode, audio
record/playback, level monitoring, and other duties of the DSP chip.

We'd also, of course, need to update the main CPU software to set
what tones you want to trigger on, what audio channel(s) you want to
trigger from, what header to send, which of the multiple outputs you
want to play it out on, add software to handle setting the option
through the front panel, modify ENDECSetD to set it in the settings
file, write documentation, and test.

And, be prepared to address the inevitable next request, "Can I
forward a pending alert with a DTMF signal? Kill a pending alert?".

I'm not saying no. It isn't just an afternoon's work, either. I'll
let you know after we've taken a look in detail.

There are, as you have said, hardware modules that will detect DTMF
codes and close a relay. Some are for sale by the usual list of
broadcast distributors in the $200 range, $99 used. $5 gets you a
board you can hook up to a power supply.
