To us old farts, the whole point of the weekly test was to train and 
keep trained the station's operators.

An automated test satisfies the letter of the law but not the intent 
to have the staff trained.  There is this old story about a station 
that made up a cart of 1 kHz tone, static, tone, static, tone and the 
rest of the EBS message and ran that on their automation until they 
got a visit from a federal agency.

I will acknowledge that "staff" is not something that stations have these days.

If you insist on DTMF use the 4th column.  Learned that lesson a 
loooong time ago.
