This current situation is what I "smelled" in some of the
language of used by the FCc in their original NPRM
concerning EAS several years ago.
That is, a definite sense that the Commission was peeved
that FEMA was moving in on its turf. Rather than coordinate
efforts, we now have this mess created by the Commission's
own incompetence.
The real problem for those of us who actually believed that
the FCC deadline would be a deadline is that we no longer
have equipment that was clearly "certified" under the
present rules, and have installed equipment that may or may
not be "certified," even though it is "CAP-Compliant." I
still have one old box, but the power supply for the other
is already gone to repair a similar unit at a non-com I take
care of.
Important question, to Harold Price and Ed Czarnicki: Do
your new devices meet the certification requirements under
the PRESENT part 11 rules?
If not, I would suggest a joint visit to the Portals by you
and the NAB to suggest that the Commission grant a blanket
waiver.
Followed by a visit to FEMA to have the area around 445 12th
St. SW declared a "disaster zone."
