Thanks Clay,
I too would rather not have to be given a laundry list of "required"
alerts.
It's best if those things can be worked out in a non-mandatory manner.
It seems that most stations around here take these responsibilities
seriously.
My station is a state relay and we immediately auto forward TOR's &
CAE's.
In addition, the commercial stations do a good job of covering wx (or
news), updates & breaking.
For the most part EAS works pretty well around here and again that is
because we all take it seriously.
There seems to be a good relationship with EM's in general but I think
this could be better.
My experience is that they know of EAS but have not put a lot of
energy into understanding how it best serves them.
We have been making headway in that area. We have a new state EAS
chair who is working well with the EM community.
I have also offered to be a resource to our local county EM if he has
questions about EAS.
I've always felt that most of the "problems" with EAS were not
technical, but in how the people used it.
Hopefully we will find CAP to be a good fit as well.
I trust that some of the issues like using the public internet will
eventually migrate to more robust delivery systems.
Once we all learn how it works, then we can find ways to make it better.
But it al boils down to people making the best of what we have to work
with.
Dave
