I somewhat agree.

Why are engineers bantering here? Well, because that's what we do
best, bailing wire and duct tape can a transmitter make! Bureaucrats
and "IT Professionals" (CTOs with no formal field experience), and up
and coming players are designing this, we're just pawns in it. We know
how to make it work, but remember, the government knows better. :)

Someone brought up a good point today on a talk show about that
emergency message thing on cell phones... when 9/11 happened, i seem
to recall the cell network being pretty useless along most of the east
coast (northern part anyways)... What good is this going to do again?

Or is this a possible political maneuver to try and shift the
broadcast industry into the grave... again?
