[EAS] Nevada Silver Alert

The California SECC has gone on record here that EAS is not a proper outlet for Silver Alerts.

We have and continue to encourage law enforcement to use the existing capabilities of the state's EDIS (Emergency Digitial Information Service). EDIS will be able to do an even better job for Silver Alerts (and the legislature's new mandate for Blue Alerts) once our state funds finishing CAP capabilities for EDIS.

Don't know what a Blue Alert is?

Our chief arguments were that the FCC has approved CAE for Amber but there is no corresponding code for other missing persons, and that, aside from Amber, EAS should be used only for widespread incidents that affect a large number of people, and when you open the door for it to be used for individuals, where does that stop, people get inured to the alerts, it becomes like the car-alarm syndrome, etc. etc. Utah actually has a pretty good model for a Silver Alert program - one that does not use EAS.
