[EAS] General Question: Can't it be a software solution?

The software would control the switches, just like Simeon does now, 
except I'd use a USB relay device like controlanything.com sells.

But I guess everyon's saying there wouldn't be cheap or even free open 
source code, so by the time you bought a laptop, the switch, and the 
software, well, you'd almost be at where Gorman has you.
