Following my reference below to manufacturer statements that no EAS unit reprogramming will be required for the National EAS Test, one legacy EAS unit manufacturer has indeed stated that reprogramming will be needed for that unit to pass the National EAS Test automatically.
Consequently, here is an update to the original AWARE article now referencing the need for at least one legacy EAS unit needing reprogramming for the test:
http://www.awareforum.org/2011/06/national-eas-test-update-some-reprogramming-may-be-needed/
I purposely did not mention the unit name, the actual DC FIPS Code, or any other details of the sort. I feel it is best for the manufacturers, who know their own boxes the best, to recommend any specific steps to be taken by their customers
Also addressed in this posting is the suggestion that there be a national EAS Location Code, such as 000000. Please note that the 000000 FIPS Code is NOT in the current FNPRM. It was in fact one of my own Comments to the prior Public Notice, but that Comment was not addressed at all by the FCC in the FNPRM. So, if you feel the 000000 FIPS Code is needed, you must file Comments to let the FCC know your opinion. See my AWARE post for details on filing Comments with the FCC - it is very easy!
