Robin, you better check again.  Kansas City is well within the New 
Madrid fault system - part of the  Reelfoot Rift  that actually 
underlies the Mississippi River. 

New Madrid / Wabash Valley system quakes have been felt as far away as 
Cleveland, IIRC.

And that's only one of the seismic zones that are part of the Ozark Dome 
system.
