Gary - Thanks for these - I would like to share them with our Emergency
Managment folks at our meeting next week.
Because Vermont is a relatively small state, with pretty good relations
between the various agencies, would it make sense to propose that State
Emergency Management work 'very closely' with NWS on getting alerts out
(including GMC)?
This is regarding your saying "Part of the upgrade will be the
capability to provide "access to NWR stations for dissemination of
localized and national emergency voice alerts". "
NWS has a pretty nice facility here at the airport, and it is not more
than 30 minutes from the existing VEM headquarters. It seems like a high
level of coordination might actually allow the site/office to serve as
either a primary or alternate 'entry point' for state messages,
including GMC?
Anyone done this locally? Does it seem fraught with 'non-technical'
problems?
Also, internally we have been discussion the idea of 'offering' our
studios to VEM and others to 'record' standard audio messages (RWT, RMT,
etc) to be used for sending alerts - particularly once CAP is
implemented. The idea being that even with their best efforts, the audio
coming out of the 'front panel' mics is usually pretty bad/noisy/low and
a nicely produced, pre-recorded file available to them would make things
'nice' for local broadcasters. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Rich Parker
