Thanks to Bill Robertson for the clarification. 

I usually avoid built in tuners because of difficult
monitoring assignments.

For example--at one site can't get NWS in the rack--even
with external antenna, because of RFI from an STL. Sat the
receiver on a window ledge 6 feet from the rack and have no
signal problems.

Different site: one monitoring assignment is a Class B 20
miles away, but 6th adj. to the B-1 station at the site. 
Some radios work fine, some don't 

Also at this site: second monitoring assignment is another
Class B 50 miles away. Similar issue with finding a radio
that works. In this case, the one that works is a $70 Sony
HD tuner.
