[BC] What brought me into radio

We had a late-30's vintage General Radio tone oscillator in service
until at least 2006. Probably could have kept it going a while longer,
as we had spare tubes and it hadn't been retubed in at least 20 years.
Also a lot of mid-60's RCA DA's that were in service into the new
millennium. And most of the phones in our house are 35+ year-old WE's.
With that record, I was stunned the first time a cell-phone CSR told me
that my 2-year-old phone was obsolete.

Think back 50 years and that gear can still be pressed into service. Now, put yourself in 1963 with a then modern station with things like cart machines and DJ oriented console designs along with much higher performance transmitters. Not to mention self operation and remote control. Now look back 40 years from 1963 and compare what radio was like in 1923. Look back 50 years and AM transmitters using the Audion tube and not mechanical alternators were just being developed. Put one of those beside your shiney new 20V3.
