Got my Ham License in March 1960, originally KN1ODC. When I got my General
Class ticket in 1961 I made friends with Norval, K1OKT. He lived in
Marlboro, MA. At that time WSRO was in Marlboro, on 1470 kcs (yes, it was
still kcs then). I never heard it because it had a directional antenna and
I lived in the minima. At that time I did do a lot of Broadcast DX
listening, so I had some interest in radio.

We decided we wanted to visit the station, I got my mom to drive me from
South Acton to Marlboro, we picked up Norval and visited the WSRO. I was so
impress by the RCA BTA-1, and the phasor, etc. I left the station that
afternoon knowing what I was going to do for the rest of my life!

I visited as many stations as I could after that, got my Grandfather to take
me to WOTW and WSMN in Nashua, NH. WSMN was another station you couldn't
hear in Acton, we sat in what was almost a null in that pattern. Tooke the
train and walked to WKBR in the spring of 1962. Later that year I got a car
and set out to visit as many stations as I could, and the rest, as they say,
is history. Of those first three stations, none are at their original
locations, all having gone dark at one time or another. Even the stations
from my first 2 jobs, WEMJ and WNBP have relocated. WNBP changed from 1470
to 1450....
